Death of George HUGHES, an old resident of Fulton township, Lancaster county died wednesday in the 85th year of age Mr Hughes was a noted manufacturer of edge tools, he having succeeded his father Joseph Hughes in the business. The deceased made his instruments with charcoal fires which gave them a fine temper and qualities for retaining a keen edge Mr. Hughes was an industrious man and he lived and died in the house in which he was born., not far from Dorsey’s Mill. His funeral took place Saturday Rev . M. Galbreath addressing the large gathering of people before the internment was made in Chesnut Level graveyard.

I am researching him onlu because my husbands Great Grandfather was living with him in 1870. He was only 14 and not listed as a servant\laborer, but listed as in school. He was Sanders McCullough Shank. Do any of those names ring a bell? Thanks
