This is most certainly our Hughes family due the nearness of Pendletons and Isbels, along with Powells.

Family Bible Called Illuminated Bible

This is a must see site for genealogists interested in Jesse Hughes, or the families of Snyder, Donaldson, Edmunds and Woolson.

Also found this information from Barre Cememtary, Town of Barre, Orleans County, LA:

HUGHES, WILLIS MARVIN JUN 12, 1837 AUG 30, 1839 SON OF JESSE HUGHES & DORCAS

A search for Jesse Hughes also turned up this article:

Hughes, Smith, Powell, Garrett

Having married a Smith from Rome, GA, I was always pleased to NOT find a connection between any Smiths and Hughes. Not that I do not like Smiths, I love them, but I prefer not being related to my spouse.

This week, I found a connection and while I have not explored this, thought someone else might be interested.

In Marshall Co., AL from Rootsweb:

ID: I179
Name: John William Joseph SMITH
Given Name: John William Joseph
Surname: Smith
Sex: M
Birth: 21 AUG 1879 in AL
Death: 27 APR 1965 in AL
Burial: Bethsaida Cemetery,Marshall Co.,Al
Change Date: 27 JUL 1999 at 03:00:00

Father: John SMITH b: 7 JAN 1843 in Guntersville,Marshall County,AL
Mother: Mary Catherine "Polly" POWELL b: 3 JUN 1836 in Mountainboro,AL

Marriage 1 Jessie Clara GARRETT b: 10 DEC 1882.

We already had this on Mary Powell. And this on the Powell family of Blount Co.

Some of you might want to do what I plan to do and explore the Mary Powell and Clara Garrett who married William Joseph Smith. My hubby, who is not into genealogy, made this statement when asked, "My dad had cousins in Marshall Co., AL."

Samuel Tennis

My dad's oldest brother was named Samuel Tennis Hughes. I have always wondered where they found the name Tennis. Oddly enough, I have found another Samuel Tennis. He is the son of Samuel and Morgan Tennis. These two have six children. One is named Rachel Tennis. Rachel married a man named Israel Hughes. Israel had a brother named John.

I found the family on Ancestry World Tree Project. They are from Montgomery County, PA.

Perhaps this is a new lead. It could of course be coincidence.
